Jobs-for-cash scam foiled

A payment of between R1 000 and R2 000 was requested to secure a position at the hospital.

NOT qualified for the job? Give me a few grand and I’ll get you in anyway.

It’s a common scam countrywide, but three culprits from a local hospital have now been caught out and have already appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the three told their ‘marks’ that they could get them jobs, even though they didn’t have the necessary qualifications… if they came up with R1 000 to R2 000 each.

Detective Constable Rouen Govender has been concentrating on these cases since January and another arrest is expected soon.
