Margate police arrest two serial housebreaking suspects

They were arrested after various stolen appliances were recovered at a house in Uvongo.

TWO hardened criminals, a Nigerian man and a South African woman, were last Saturday arrested for various crimes committed in and around the Margate area.

Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said Constables Jodache Singh and Skhumbuzo Mavundla, who were patrolling in the Manaba area, received information about a house robbery in Lilliecrona Road.

“The officers proceeded to a holiday complex were an iPhone had been stolen while the holidaymakers were in the house. The officers traced the iPhone to a house in Tucker Road, Uvongo. With backup from Port Shepstone Dog Unit, the officers went into the house and arrested the Nigerian and the woman,” said Cpt Mfeka.

Various other household items including several laptops, cellphones, a flat screen tv, dvd players, video camera and many other items were recovered. Police believe that these items could have also be stolen during other house break-ins in the area.

Mwaumkwu Kingsley (35) and Gugu Cele (20) appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrates’s Court yesterday. The case was postponed for further investigation.

“We urge communities to work hand in hand with the police in order to win this war on crime perpetrated in our communities,” said Cpt Mfeka.
