Pennington gang member nabbed

The suspect faces charges of house robbery.

A WANTED gang member’s reign of terror ended after he was arrested on Sunday in Chabane, near Hibberdene.

Muzi Makhanya (22) was part of the notorious gang which was responsible for a spate of housebreakings in the Pennington and Scottburgh areas in December 2014 and January this year.

Makhanya, who faces charges of house robbery, appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday this week. The case was postponed to April 22 for a formal bail application.

The arrest was made by the Hibberdene task team,  assisted by officers from Crime Intelligence Gathering and Public Order Policing. The cases are being investigated by the Scottburgh Cluster Detective Task Team.

Police shot dead two of the gang members, while two others remain in police custody.
