WHO needs neighbours when they blatantly pinch your power?
An elderly Park Rynie resident is highly upset after finding her neighbour was illegally connected to her electricity supply box.
The woman was warned by the previous owners of her property that the neighbours stole electricity, but there was nothing amiss when she received her first electricity bill.
Then Eskom installed a new electricity box in the street and suddenly her bill soared from R900 a month to R1 900.
She could not understand the sudden increase as she used electricity sparingly, had installed LED lights and used a gas stove.
An OWL electricity monitor in her home showed that power was being used, but not by her. She went to investigate and found cables running from her box to her neighbour’s house.
Too afraid to confront the neighbours, she contacted the Eskom office in Park Rynie last week and was told that the problem would be attended to in the next 10 days.
“One thing I do not understand is how their house has not had an Eskom meter in the panel for many years and Eskom has not noticed or even bothered to check.”
Eskom said it was investigating.
