VARIOUS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units in KwaZulu-Natal have a profound reason to celebrate results achieved during their investigation of various sexual related offences in KwaZulu-Natal in the last financial year.
These dedicated teams of detectives have been shuttling to and from the different courts throughout the province in the quest to see justice done to several victims of rape and sexual violation.
From March 31 2014 to April 1 2015, the detectives secured the conviction and sentencing of 102 offenders. These offenders were charged with, amongst others, kidnapping, assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, robbery, attempted murder, house breaking and theft, abduction and rape cases in the province.
“We owe these successful convictions to the dedication and capability of the different FCS Units that effectively investigated crimes involving vulnerable women and children in our province,” said police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane.
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded these successes. “The sentences handed down will send a clear message to like-minded would-be offenders that the police will trace, arrest and make sure that they present a thoroughly investigated docket to courts for prosecution. Police in KwaZulu-Natal will endeavour with all its resources to prevent crimes against women and children and make the province a safer place for everyone,” she said.
