SHELLY Beach has been rocked by house robberies and business robberies in recent days.
Security companies have also reported an increase in housebreakings in the area.
Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid confirmed the incidents.
Police were called to Kings Paint and Hardware in Shelly Beach last Thursday, where a burglary had taken place during the night.
Owner Kevin Gundry noticed that several holes had been made in the roof and that the alarm cables were deactivated.
Items such as an LCD screen, a laptop, cash and stock were stolen from the shop. “The thieves gained entry to the business by removing roof tiles and then punching holes into the ceiling to locate the security box,” said Mr Gundry.
A burglary was also reported at another business in Shelly Beach, where the owner discovered that a glass door was broken last Thursday. “A Sony hi-fi, a laptop, cash and a till were stolen, ” said Lt-Col Wiid.
She added that a house was also broken into in Victory Road last Wednesday, in broad daylight. “A window was forced open and household items were taken,” she said.
In Marine Drive, a garage door was forced open last Wednesday to allow criminals entry into a house and two plasma television sets were stolen.
“Crime in Shelly Beach is getting out of control. We as the community and businesses need to get together and do something about it. Enough is enough, we need to put a stop to this,” said Mr Gundry.
