VIDEO: Body found hidden in dense bush
Police could not say whether the deceased was a missing Marburg man.
THE decomposed body of an unidentified man was found in dense bush in Protea Park this morning after a resident of the area had contacted the police about a suspicious odour.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid declined to speculate whether the body could be that of a 38-year-old man missing man, Valayadham Munien Govender from Marburg.
She said that, because of the advanced state of decomposition of the body identifying the deceased might be a lengthy process. If dental records were not available investigators might have to rely on DNA tests.
Mr Govender, who is known as ‘Naina’, by his friends and family, was reported missing when he did not return home on Monday evening last week. He had left his home in Ferndale Road early that morning.
It was thought that he was planning to sell vegetables from his trolley in the Albersville area.
A shopping trolley containing empty cardboard boxes was found near the body. The Port Shepstone K9 Unit was called in to assist with the investigations.
Residents have asked a municipal official to clear the vacant land where the body was found as they believed the dense bush is a refuge for vagrants and criminals.
