Be careful when walking alone
Gangs seem to be targeting beachgoers and walkers in some areas.
A RESIDENT of Uvongo (30) collapsed on the roadside after he was stabbed in the back while walking on Monday this week.
Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, said the pedestrian was stabbed with a knife between the shoulders while walking home on Peter Road, Uvongo from Masinenge at about 7.20pm.
The robbers were allegedly travelling (in the opposite direction) in a red Toyota Corolla along Peter Road when they jumped out, stabbed and robbed him of his cash, gate remote, bank card and wallet.
Cpt Mfeka said police had opened a case of aggravated robbery.
Last Friday afternoon, a beachgoer was robbed by a group of five teenagers while watching the waves at Trafalgar beach.
Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka, said the man told police that a group of teenagers aged between 15 and 17 approached him and asked for a cigarette.
“When he gave them a cigarette, one of the them pulled out a knife, threatened him and demanded his bag which contained a cellphone, camera, wallet, cash, driver’s licence and ID book,” he said.
In a separate incident, a pedestrian was threatened by four men who had a knife, while walking along Dorothy Road, Margate last Saturday. The men took his wallet, cash, wrist watch and cellphone and fled.
Captain Mfeka said a separate case of aggravated robbery was opened after a thief forcefully grabbed and fled with a man’s cellphone while he was walking along Marine Drive, Margate last Saturday.
