Zero tolerance for student rioters
The strike turned violent and property was damaged.
POLICE have issued a strong warning to students that any damage they cause to the Gamalakhe TVET College will be at their own peril.
Captain Gerald Mfeka said there would be zero tolerance if anyone was caught damaging the college.
This follows the recent arrest of 20 students for public violence when a strike became violent with tyres set alight and police stoned.
They appeared in Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on May 28. Bail was fixed at R500 and they will appear in court again on June 29.
Some of the students’ grievances concerned bursaries and the ‘lack of transparency’ around financial aid.
