35 year sentence for Izingolweni murderer
The man was handed 20 years for the murder.
THREE years after the murder of 75-year-old pensioner Bajoli Cele, Skhumbuzo Nyathi (32), was convicted of murder and house robbery in the Izingolweni Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.
Cele was murdered in December 2012.
A task team was set up by SAPS Cluster Commander Brigadier Morris Moodley, which later lead to the arrest of Nyathi. The case was investigated by Warrant Officer Sisiso Mazundla.
Magistrate Cynthia Busisiwe Mkhulisa sentenced Nyathi, of Nkulu Ward, Izingolweni to five years for house breaking, 10 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and 20 years for murder. The sentences will run concurrently.
Police spokesman, Gerald Mfeka, welcomed the conviction saying it was a good sentence, which sends out a message to the public that the law is on their side.
