Roadblock runaway arrested
The 39-year-old man was arrested and was charged with possession of stolen property.
A MAN was arrested yesterday, (Wednesday) after fleeing from a safety checkpoint near the Oribi toll plaza.
Port Shepstone K9 unit commander, Captain Vuyani Rini and Constable Senzo Nzama were searching vehicles when they noticed a black VW Golf approaching the toll gate from a southerly direction.
The driver of the vehicle suddenly stopped the car before reaching the toll gate, jumped out and ran away.
“Captain Rini and Cst Nzama responded and started searching for the man,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid. “After being directed by the community in the direction the suspect had disappeared, the two officers finally arrested him.”
Two flat screen televisions, a laptop and expensive liquor were found in the vehicle. It was found that the licence disc on the car had expired in 2012.
The 39-year-old foreign national was arrested and was charged with possession of suspected stolen property. He will also be facing a charge for the expired license and will appear in court soon.
The car was impounded.
