POLICE arrested three men after they allegedly robbed a shop in Marburg on Wednesday.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said the men went into the shop at about midday, one of them wanting to buy loose cigarettes. Shortly afterwards, the same three, together with another two men, came in and walked around to the woman behind the counter.
One man put his hand over her mouth to stifle a scream, but she managed to press the panic button. The five fled with her cellphone.
While police were making their way to the scene, Warrant Officer Richard PC Naicker was stopped by officers from a security company who directed them to bushes on the Sugarmill Road. A man was arrested and a cellphone was recovered.
Meanwhile, Constable Joseph Cele from the K9 Unit and Constable Bongani Ciliza spotted another suspect also hiding under the bush and Sergeant Mbuso Ndlovu from the K9 Unit, who was waiting on the road nearby, saw a third man running under a bridge.
The three are to appear in court soon.
