Youth Day chaos hits the streets
Great teamwork and speedy responses made all the difference on the public holiday.
RAMSGATE Crime Watch is growing by the day.
So far they are 240 strong on the Whatsapp group and 35 members are patrolling the suburb voluntarily.
Morne Kruger, who heads up RCW, said that Youth Day celebrations on Tuesday this week proved particularly challenging, attracting hundreds of intoxicated people to the streets of Margate and Ramsgate.
“Wolf Security, RCW and CPF responded in a flash to a stabbing, but the suspects escaped. The man was stabilised by members of RCW and Wolf Security,” he said.
They also responded to a call in Perch Road where an armed robbery was in progress, and they managed to detain a suspect in Ridge Road.
Waiting for police and paramedics, they witnessed another armed robbery/ attempted murder as four people tackled a man and stabbed him in the neck, face and hand.
RCW stabilised the injured man and, together with Wolf, arrested three of the four people. They were detained by Margate SAPS.
Three house breaking incidents were apparently reported in Shad, Linton and Penshurst roads.
It was a busy, but successful night with Ramsgate CPF also recovering stolen property.
“All three housebreakings were attempts and were foiled by quick reaction,” added Mr Kruger.
