‘Good Samaritan’ assaulted, robbed

They got into a tussle and the suspect took the paramedic’s wallet, which contained money and bank and business cards.

A SCOTTBURGH man (24) was driving along the R102 Old Main Road at Kelso at 4.30pm last Wednesday when he was robbed and assaulted.

According to the motorist, he was waved down by a man, who appeared to be assisting another man who was lying at the roadside, crying.

The motorist, being a paramedic, thought that the man on the ground may have been hurt and stopped to render assistance.

However, when he alighted form his vehicle, the man who had flagged him down grabbed him by his shirt and demanded  money.

They got into a tussle and the suspect took the paramedic’s wallet, which contained money and bank and business cards.

The ‘injured’ man then stood up and struck the victim in the face with a rock while he was grappling with the first suspect.

Both suspects then raced off towards the railway tracks and disappeared into the bushes.

No arrests have been made at this stage and the case is being investigated by Detective Constable Dillon Khamisa of the Scottburgh SAPS Detective Service.
