Breaking news: Human traffickers sentenced

Their crimes included keeping a brothel and kidnapping.

VEERAN Palan (33) and Edwina Bonita Norris (27), appeared in the Port Shepstone Regional Court earlier today on charges of trafficking in humans for sexual purposes, keeping a brothel, procuring persons for purposes of prostitution and kidnapping.

Magistrate Johann Bester handed Palan a 10 year jail sentence, and a fine of R10 000 or five months’ imprisonment for possession or use of proceeds of unlawful activities.

Norris was given six years for her crimes.
