Club’s 100-year history stolen
The thief is asked to please return the research material - no questions asked.
MONTHS of work collecting information for the Port Shepstone Country Club’s centenary brochure was stolen in a ‘smash and grab’ from a car parked outside the Herald yesterday.
Club executive member Sweady Chetty had spent ages collecting old photographs (many irreplaceable), information and personal anecdotes about the club’s past 100 years and it was all in a briefcase in the back of his car while he was at the Herald doing some more research.
Only when he was driving away later did he notice a draught coming through a broken window at the back of his car. To his horror, the briefcase and all his hard work were gone.
“It’s a tall order, I know, but to whomever took the briefcase…. please, please give back the contents,” begged Mr Chetty.
“It is of no value or use to anyone other than future generations, who would benefit from a historical document that we had hoped to produce.
“If you read this, keep the briefcase, pens or whatever else you think has value and dump the photographs, documents and memory sticks through the slot at the Herald’s front door. No questions will be asked.”
