Robbery suspect dies of gunshot to the head
He is thought to have shot himself after being chased by an angry mob.
AN alleged robber is believed to have shot himself rather than face the wrath of angry residents who were chasing him through a sugarcane field.
A tuck shop in Thokothe ward, Gcilima, near Southbroom, was robbed by two men on Monday.
When police arrived they found an angry crowd at the shop who told them they had chased two men who. they claimed, had committed the robbery.
The two men fled in different directions, said police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka.
“One of the suspected robbers ran into the sugarcane plantation and the community members heard a gunshot shortly afterwards.”
Those giving chase found one of the men lying dead with a gunshot wound to the head, firearm in hand.
The second suspect was arrested by police later that day and is due to appear in the Ramsgate Court soon.
