Operation Fiela yields results once again

The joint operation was conducted in several KZN towns recently.

A JOINT operation conducted under the umbrella of Operation Fiela, comprising officers from SAPS, the Department of Home Affairs, Metro Police and private security, yielded positive results when more than 120 suspects were arrested in one day.

The arrests were made in Margate, Port Shepstone, Dundee, Greytown, KwaDukuza, Phoenix, Newcastle, Pietermaritzburg and Pinetown.

Suspects were arrested for various offences, including the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, possession of dagga, illegal immigration, illegal gambling, dealing in liquor without a license, dealing in illegal cigarettes, possession of counterfeit goods, murder, hijacking, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and contravening the Road Traffic Act.

“In one case, a 30-year-old man was arrested for the possession of five unlicensed firearms, including an AK47 rifle,” said police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane.
