Sheppie businessmen ready to clean the town
The forum aims to make a meaningful contribution to the community.
LOCAL businessmen are ready to partner with the Hibiscus Coast Municipality to make sure that the Port Shepstone CBD is made more attractive and user-friendly for all.
At a recent meeting between the Port Shepstone Business Forum (PSBF) and the HCM, held at the municipality’s boardroom last Thursday, it was made clear that there are major revamp plans for Sheppie in the pipeline.
The PSBF, a newly-formed body representing all businesses in Port Shepstone and Marburg, has offered to help the municipality with projects to improve the town. The forum is ready to take on challenges and work hard to give the town a facelift.
The PSBF was launched recently at a general meeting held at the Port Shepstone Senior Primary School. The following were elected to the executive committee: Dr Ayoob Moosa Bux (chairman), Hopson Shezi (vice-chairman), Vijay Naidoo (secretary), Moosa Moosa (treasurer), Dr Junaid Khan, Markus Gonsalves, Koko Zithumane, Ahmed Desai and Younus Moosa.
“We want to partner with other organisations to raise funds and facilitate empowering the needy communities to create small businesses to generate income,” said Mr Moosa.
The forum also aims to set up an education fund to support disadvantaged children’s primary and secondary education. “This forum is hoping to explore various opportunities with the municipality. With the resources available, we can work together to build a better CBD for all,” said Dr Bux.
The businessmen made it clear that they were not there to tell the Hibiscus Coast Municipality mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu how to run the municipality or the town, but were there to help.
The mayor welcomed the forum’s ideas. “It is heart-warming to see local people willing to work with the municipality,” she said. The mayor, municipal manager and speaker also gave the forum information on some new developments planned by the municipality for Port Shepstone.
The next general meeting of the PSBF will take place at Port Shepstone Senior Primary on September 16 at 6.15pm sharp.
All business people are welcome to attend.
