Fathers have rights too

The documentary will highlight the issue of fathers who have been denied access to their children.

MUSICIAN Joash Perumal, better known as Jae-Magic, is planning to shoot a documentary to highlight the right every father has to access his biological child.

The campaign titled ‘4 Daddy’ calls the community to stand behind fathers who, for whatever reason, are denied or only have limited contact (access) with their children.

Joash (31), from Port Shepstone, has teamed up with local movie producer Senzo Zindela of Sollywood Films to shoot the controversial documentary, described as ‘sensitive and crucial’.

The pair, who have both excelled in the entertainment world, are inviting fathers and children who have been victims to come forward, take a stand, and share their stories.

“So far we have had people come forward and share their stories, so I hope this will motivate others to step forward and speak out. Once we have conducted the interviews, we will write a script, shoot the documentary and then a film, as I have landed a production and publishing deal with Z-Management in the UK,” he said.

He believes that couples need to put their differences aside and focus on the best interest of the child.  “Parents should not use their children to fight their own personal problems,” he said.

This issue is a worldwide problem and called for the court system to change to help fathers gain rightful access to their children, he explained. “Not all fathers are bad and, in some cases, women use the law to abuse the system. One in three people know of some father who is going through or has experienced this.

“Bitterness is destroying our children psychologically and in every other possible way. Let us men stand up and be counted and stop raising a community full of angry kids,” he said.

Senzo agreed, saying that in many cases the child became torn between two parents and it was hoped that this documentary would make men and women think about their actions during a separation.

“We have to build a future generation who look at their fathers as role models, especially young boys,” he added.

Those interested in sharing their story can email: justice4daddymovement@gmail.com or via the facebook page: ‘4Daddy’.
