Man murdered over ‘stolen’ cellphone

He was assaulted, hit with a hammer and stabbed with a nail.

TWO men were arrested after a man was murdered in Ntaba ward, Izingolweni last Saturday.

A group of friends was drinking at a house when a cellphone went missing.

“It is thought that Zakhele Xolo (28) had taken the cellphone, which was found next to him,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

He was then assaulted, hit with a hammer and stabbed with a nail.

“He was taken from the house and dragged for about 500m before being left at the side of the road, where he died,” said Capt Mfeka.

People saw the two men dragging Xolo and contacted the police.

The two men, aged 22 and a 43 years respectively, appeared in the Izingolweni court on Monday this week.

The case was postponed for further investigation.
