Elderly man dies in blaze

Eight informal dwellings were completely destroyed by the fire.

AN elderly man died in a fire which swept through the Masinenge informal settlement near Margate last Saturday night.

Paramedics from KZN Emergency Medical Services and fire fighters from the Hibiscus Coast Municipality responded to the incident.

Eight informal dwellings were completely destroyed by the fire.

“No one else was injured, but several families were left homeless,” said KZN EMS spokesman, Rob Mckenzie.

The exact cause of the fire is not known at this stage and will be investigated.

This is the second fire in the settlement within two months. Twenty-five houses were destroyed by a blaze which broke out in the settlement on Christmas Day. There were no injuries reported.
