SA Idols rocks South Coast
South Coasters had a thrilling experience with this year's top 34.
SOUTH Coast fans of South African Idols flocked to the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resorts’ Tropical Nites Theatre for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the live recording of season 12 of the popular contest on Friday last week.
Those lucky enough to attend got to take a peek behind the scenes and see what goes on during ‘theatre week’.
This year’s 34 golden ticket contestants gave it their all, trying to garner more votes from the judging panel, Randall Abrahams, Unathi Msengana, Gareth Cliff and Somizi Mhlongo.
All the contestants receive enthusiastic applause, but it was Thami Shobede who received a standing ovation when he sang Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’. (This was some small consolation for the ‘Beliebers’ who fell for the South Coast Herald’s front page April Fool article.)
Scarlet Scorer (11) from Port Edward said she was excited to be part of the experience as she was a big fan of Idols. “Being here has been awesome, The guy who sang ‘Sorry’ by Justin Bieber made my entire week. It felt as if I was seeing the real deal,” said a star-struck Scarlet.
Judge Somizi Mhlongo said that this year’s competition was going to be tough for the judges as all contestants are extremely good. He added that it was up to the rest of South Africa to not let their favourites down by voting for them.
South African Idols season 12 will be broadcast on Mzansi Magic DStv channel 161 from Sunday July 17 at 5pm – an opportunity to spot yourself or neighbour on the fans’ seats.
