Another busy weekend for NSRI

Two vessels in distress were assisted.

WHAT would happen if NSRI wasn’t around to save the day?

* A Langebaan based yacht, the Astrell, running low on fuel, would have been in trouble had it not been for the NSRI Port Edward duty crew last Friday. With four crew on board the yacht, sailing to Durban, had run out of diesel off Port St Johns. The sea rescue craft Wild Coast Sun Rescuer was launched at 2.30pm and fuel was supplied to the yacht which was by then off Port Edward.

* A local boat, Calypso, with four crew on board would have been stuck after suffering  mechanical problems off Shelly Beach last Saturday.  While on a routine training exercise with Hibiscus Med-Evac ambulance services,  NSRI Shelly Beach was notified of the problem. The sea rescue craft Spirit of Dawn and the Hibiscus Med-Evac rescue craft ‘God’s Grace’ diverted from the training exercise and responded. Three men aboard the Calypso were transferred onto God’s Grace and brought to shore. The skipper then managed to get his craft ashore on limited motor power.
