Smart Exchange launched in Sheppie

The incubator centre will provide assistance to local SMMEs.

SMART Exchange stakeholders gathered at Suid-Natal High’s school hall last Thursday, for the incubator launch of the Port Shepstone Smart Exchange.

For those not in the know, Smart Exchange is an organisation formed to assist and support  SMMEs through incubation.

Speaking at the event, minister for small businesses development, Lindiwe Zulu said she was excited to be a part of a programme that develops young people.

“I am also proud that the Smart Exchange recently celebrated its 10-year milestone and that Port Shepstone gets to be part of this dynamic package.”

CEO of Smart Exchange, Jonathan Naidoo said the past 10 years had seen the company grow and work with society to improve local and national development with the creation of more than 900 permanent jobs and a collective turnover of just under R750 000.

“This is a good story to tell,” said Mr Naidoo. He added that graduates joining programmes at Smart Exchange acquire skills which they will use in developing SMMEs.

Hibiscus Coast mayor, Nomusa Mqwebu thanked the CEO and the organisers for bringing development to Port Shepstone.

She also promised that the municipality will support the cause as it fights unemployment and alleviates poverty.

MP Ruth Bhengu, applauded the company for its achievements and said that the relationship between the company and the municipality is a good example of a successful non-government organisation and government relationship.
