Contractor in the poo

The contractor neglected to inform Ugu that a sewerage pipe had been damaged.

NO good deed goes unpunished, they say and a Department of Transport contractor can testify to that.

His work has literally landed him in the poo.

The contractor was doing repairs in Oscar Borchers road, near White City, Albersville, when his workers hit a sewerage pipeline.

The raw sewage leaked out and flowed into the Umzimkhulu River.

The Herald team gagged from the stench when they visited the site on Tuesday.

Even worse, the river is a source of water for the community and there are now health concerns.

Spokesman for Ugu District Municipality France Zama said the municipality had experienced numerous pipe breakages on the road, apparently caused by a contractor for the Department of Transport.

“The municipality has repaired and reinstated most of them. However, the one in question has just come to our attention through the Herald inquiry.

“A team of technicians has been dispatched to repair and clean up while we engage with the Department of Transport,” he said.
