Seasonal plan meeting cancelled without notice

The meeting had apparently been cancelled due to the unavailability of the Head of Department.

THE Public Safety Department’s seasonal and strategic plan presentation, expected to be heard at the Margate Business Association‘s (MBA) most recent meeting, was cancelled without any notice.

Those who had made special arrangements to attend the meeting were met at the MBA offices by Councillor Dave Watson, who informed them, including the Herald reporter, that the meeting had been cancelled due to the unavailability of the Head of Department and that Corrie Wernick, the MBA’s business liaison officer, had been unable to notify everyone of the cancellation, as she was away on holiday.

“This was a meeting to arrange the seasonal plan for Margate, road closures and so on. Long overdue and, with the season so close, it is a huge problem that is not being treated with the urgency and professionalism that it demands,” said Cllr Watson.

The meeting was called by the department to finalise the plan and it was the department which failed to arrive, Dave Watson

When Simon April, spokesman for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, was asked if any plans had been finalised for the coast, he responded by saying that the three main service delivery departments – technical services, community services and public safety – had prepared the seasonal plans for the municipality as a whole, not only for the coast.

He confirmed that these had already been presented to the senior management and were to be presented in a council meeting on November 29.
