Ugu accused of making ‘corrupt decisions’
The IFP claims Ugu wants to place people in positions which have not been advertised.
THE Inkatha Freedom Party says it has noted the ‘corrupt and unethical decisions’ Ugu District Municipality intends to take by placing its own personnel in vacant positions within the Ugu Development Agency.
This followed the amalgamation of the municipalities which left some people without jobs due to demarcations.
“We are concerned that Ugu wants to place people in positions which have not been advertised,” said Councillor Simphiwe Mthethwa.
There are two positions Cllr Mthethwa highlights: Firstly that of the CEO, for which a decision was taken by Exco to second the former municipal manager of Ezinqoleni Municipality, Mandla Mabhece.
“The IFP didn’t support this decision at Exco and stated that the posts must be advertised and all the recruitment procedures must be followed. This matter was taken to Cogta, which agreed with the IFP that this post needs to be advertised for the public benefit,” he said.
Secondly, a member of the agency board had died and according to Cllr Mthethwa, Exco and Council had resolved to replace the member without advertising the post.
“As the IFP, we are raising this matter, because we believe that all vacant posts need to be advertised and all procedures must be followed. The favouring of people will push the agency itself in the wrong direction,” Cllr Mthethwa added.
