Video and Pics: Washing machine causes blaze in complex
The sound of explosions could be heard emanating from the garage.
IF not for a very alert neighbour, an entire complex might have gone up in flames early this morning in Williamson Street, Scottburgh.
Andrew Garland spotted smoke emanating from a window and upon investigation discovered that a washing machine had somehow caught fire – most likely as a result of an electrical fault.

Shockingly, two people, a domestic worker and child, were still inside the property.
Fortunately, they managed to escape unharmed and the child was reunited with her mother who had arrived on scene after being notified of the fire – she did not want to be named.

Residents reported that the flames quickly spread out of control. Mr Garland got hold of a local estate agent who contacted the Umdoni Fire Department. The department, they agree, deserves a round of applause for arriving at the scene of the fire within a few minutes.
Explosions could be heard emanating from the garage.
Residents and bystanders kept their distance as firemen warned that the car could explode at any moment. Luckily, firemen managed to remove the vehicle from the garage and extinguish the flames.
