Vulingqondo pupils make the grade

In 2010, Lonza added an extra classroom and in 2014 the bathroom was extended to accommodate six new toilets and two wash basins.

The achievements of 34 little pupils is testament to Shelly Beach company Lonza Wood Protection’s commitment to Vulingqondo Crèche.

Lonza make this event a highlight on their calendar each year and this year, the little ‘graduates’ were treated to an exciting excursion at Pure Venom Reptile Park, followed by lunch and then the highlight of the day – the graduation ceremony.

They also arranged for Father Christmas to pay a special visit to the crèche to hand out gifts and a KFC lunch to each child.

“About 114 children enrolled this year and 34 are graduating, compared to 22 in 2016. This is nearly a 55 percent increase in young pupils benefitting from education in the Bethania rural community of the Ugu district municipality where the crèche is.” said Doug Sayce, Lonza’s general manager.

Lonza’s commitment and the positive impact it has on creating an environment conducive to learning makes it possible for these children to reach their full potential.
