Closet exchange makes a difference in Pennington
Items could be swapped, sold or donated.
Sometimes, making a difference starts with something as simple as opening your wardrobe.
Last Saturday, the Coastal Closet Exchange in Pennington turned pre-loved clothing into an opportunity for connection, generosity and community support – bringing people together for a day that was about so much more than fashion.
Organised by The Pennington Pantry and Revive Coastal Luxury Spa, the initiative invited residents to bring quality clothing, shoes, books, and accessories. Items could be swapped, sold or donated, creating a sustainable way to refresh wardrobes while supporting causes that matter.
But it was the people who made the day.
From early morning, volunteers and community members worked together to sort clothing, welcome visitors and create displays.
The generosity of those who donated clothing also supported local organisations such as Gathering Together, The Elders Voice and Tidy Towns.
The next Coastal Closet Exchange takes place on September 12, offering another opportunity to browse, exchange and give back. There will also be R50 hand massages, with participants able to choose which local non-profit organisation their payment supports. Books at R10 each are available at The Pennington Pantry in support of Elders Voice.
Beneficiaries will include SPCA, Gathering Together, The Pennington Conservancy, Tidy Towns and The Elders Voice, each contributing in important ways to the local community, from supporting people and older residents to caring for animals, protecting the environment and keeping the area clean.
Come for the clothes. Stay for the community. Furry friends welcome.
The organisers are grateful to everyone who donated, volunteered, participated, supported local businesses or stopped by.
