Police recover more unlicensed firearms, ammunition

Both men will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

In two separate incidents, two men were arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The first arrest was made at Tholeni, St Faith’s last Friday by officers from the Port Shepstone Public Order Police (POP).

“They arrested a 36-year-old man who was found in possession of an unlicensed Norinco 9mm pistol and one round of ammunition as well as a magazine,” said police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The team then acted on information by the Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit and went to Mgodi area in Highflats where they arrested a second suspect, a 30-year-old man. He was also found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistol, one round of ammunition and a magazine.

Both men will be charged and will appear in court soon.

The officers involved in the arrests were Sergeant Edwin Dube, Constable Mzwakhe Makana, Cst Lee Frost and Cst Muzikhayise Nyawose.
