Marburg Secondary’s class of 2017 achieved a 92.7 percent pass rate in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. Sixty percent of pupils were credited with bachelor passes, thirty percent obtained diploma passes and the remaining ten percent gained a higher certificate pass. The class of 2017 produced a total of 117 subject distinctions.

The school’s top pupils were Sinothando Mkhize, Dayantha Subrayadu, Kerisa Juglal and Sakhile Mwandla, who earned six distinctions each. Nivasha Rambarosa obtained five distinctions while Nonhle Gumede and Siphesihle Sonjica received four distinctions each.
Sinothando, who was the recipient of the dux award for 2017, has registered to study actuarial science at the University of Pretoria this year.
Saleem Vallee principal of Marburg Secondary told the Herald that, in 2017, the road was tough for many of the pupils. “Despite difficulties, they put their shoulders to the wheel and made the school proud by maintaining a pass rate of above 90 percent. The management and governing body acknowledge the hard work, sacrifice and sheer effort made by teachers on producing outstanding results, year after year.”
