Viral Sezela ‘farm attack’ is social media hogwash

No firearms were stolen as alleged in the social media post, which has since been deleted from Facebook.

Last Saturday (January 20) a farm manager and an employee of the Umoba/Elysium farm in the Mdasha area of Umzinto were involved in a work related dispute at the office, which resulted in the manager being hospitalised.

“The man suffered open wounds to the head,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

The manager of the farm managed to contact a neighboring farm security manager who came to his assistance.

He was subsequently rushed to a local doctor before being taken to a Durban hospital for further medical attention.

A case of attempted murder was registered for investigation – the victim was unable to provide a statement due to the nature of the injuries.

A 50-year-old man was arrested on Sunday and is expected to appear in court today.

A knobkerrie which is believed to have been the weapon used in the assault has been seized as an exhibit.

The case has been assigned to Detective Warrant Officer Rajesh Maharaj of the Umzinto SAPS Detective Service for investigation.

No firearms were stolen as alleged in the social media post, which has since been deleted from Facebook. The post had close to 1 000 shares.
