Police seize Sawoti man’s unlicensed pistol and ammunition

In addition to the five rounds of ammunition belonging to the pistol, some 75 rounds of 9mm ammunition were also confiscated.

A 63-year-old Sawoti man appeared in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court last Friday after being found in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Members of the Ugu Cluster Operational Command Centre followed up on information and headed towards Msatshwa France Dlamini’s Maqhikizane Ward home.

When searching Dlamini’s home, police found and subsequently seized a CZ 7.65mm pistol as well as five rounds of ammunition belonging to the same make of pistol.

Some 75 rounds of 9mm ammunition were also seized during the operation. The serial number of the pistol had been erased.

“The accused, who does not have a valid licence to possess a firearm or ammunition, was arrested and detained until his court appearance,” said Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

Dlamini was remanded into custody until March 6 when he is due to appear in court for a bail application hearing.

Detective Constable Nonhle Myende of the Sawoti SAPS Detective Service is investigating the case.
