Uumdoni Municipality appointed a new acting municipal manager, Bongani Nyuswa, in December last year, but he has been conspicuous by his absence recently.
The acting MM did not attend the council meeting last Wednesday, asking instead that the general manager of finance act on his behalf.

According to the mayor, Councillor Thabani Dube, the Mr Nyuswa wasn’t able to attend the meeting as he had strategic planning to do at Umzumbe Municipality and his department was playing a great role there.
The general manager of finance, who was apparently appointed by Mr Nyuswa, did not in fact act on his behalf as she was not informed that she was required to do so prior to the meeting.
Mr Nyuswa’s appointment was somewhat controversial, with 14 councillors voting in favour of his appointment, 10 against and two abstaining.

The main reason given by those not in favour was that Mr Nyuswa was formerly from Umzumbe Municipality and questions were asked about why an ‘outsider’ should be given an Umdoni position.
So another council meeting had no municipal manager, the seat empty, just as it was before the appointment.
