Police spokesman, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said on Sunday morning, Constable Mzwakhe Makana and Cst Siyabulela Qhosha from Public Order Policing (POP) Port Shepstone  followed up on information received.

“Later that day, they arrested two men, aged 19 and 25  respectively, in connection with the murder. It is believed that the victim was forced into a silver car which was driven away by the suspects. He was then stabbed to death with a screwdriver.”

Police later found both the car and the bloodstained screwdriver.

It appears that the victim was killed because he took a cellphone from one of the suspects.

Both men face charges of murder. The 25-year-old is also accused of committing another murder in Gamalakhe earlier this year.

The bloodstained screwdriver was found in a car.

In a separate arrest on Monday this week,  Csts Makana and Qhosha arrested a 29-year-old man for assault and committing grievous bodily harm in Gamalakhe.

The man is accused of luring a 33-year-old man behind a shop last Saturday before assaulting him with the butt of a gun.

“It is claimed that he assaulted the victim because he had not been paid for heroin he had sold to the man. When the constables arrested the man they found cash, Mandrax and a pellet gun in his possession. Police also recovered a silver dagger,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
