A businessman travelling from Port Shepstone to Durban on the N2 earlier this week was forced to a stop near Hibberdene by a car occupied by four armed men.

“The gunmen drove the businessman’s vehicle to a secluded area at Ifafa Beach where they robbed him of a large sum of cash and his cellphone. The men took the keys to the businessman’s vehicle and drove away, leaving him and his vehicle behind. The businessman later found his keys further along the road while walking to seek help,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.
Police have issued a warning to businesspeople to be extra vigilant, and offer the following tips:
- Try to avoid telling staff where and when you will be conducting deals and consider using electronic transactions in order not to carry cash
- Change your routine. Vary the days for bank visits and don’t make this information public to anyone.
- Avoid carrying money bags, briefcases or displaying your receipt book. Refrain from paying casual wages to contract personnel in full view of the public.
- Refrain from driving your company branded vehicle to the bank on a typical payday.
