Police have warned vehicle owners of a new scam doing the rounds.
According to police spokesman, Captain Vincent Pandarum people whose vehicles had been stolen were reportedly receiving text messages informing them that the Port Shepstone Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit had recovered the vehicle and the vehicle would be released to the owner once payment of a certain sum of money had been made.

“This is a scam to extort money. Should you receive such a message, contact the investigating officer or Lieutenant-Colonel Twane immediately at 071 6836495 or 0396859200,” he said.
He added that no payments or deposits should be made for the recovery or return of stolen vehicles.
