Proactive cops scout out drugs in Kwacele, Amandawe

Upon searching the second homestead, they found two plastic bags containing loose dagga as well as 90 small transparent packets of the drug ready for sale.

Members of the Scottburgh Task Team and the Umzinto K9 Unit raided a homestead in KwaCele, Amandawe last Thursday morning at 8.30am, after receing information about drugs in the area.

“They found a plastic bag containing 462 grams of dagga as well as a wallet containing R6 120 hidden in a pillow on the bed,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

A 24-year-old was arrested.

Police then searched a 22-year-old man who runs a tuckshop at the front of the homestead.

They found two grams of dagga in his pocket. He was arrested and the drugs seized.

“The money seized is believed to be the proceeds from the sale of drugs,” said Captain Pandarum.

Later that day, members proceeded to another homestead in the area, where they had heard of a woman (46) dealing in drugs.

“Upon searching the premises they found two plastic bags containing loose dagga as well as 90 small transparent packets of dagga ready for sale, hidden in a bucket,” said Capt Pandarum.

Dagga found in the second homestead packaged and ready for distribution.

The woman was arrested and the drugs seized.

The 24-year-old man was remanded until May 3 while the case against the woman was postponed to April 20 for further investigation.

They were granted bail of R500 each. The 22-year-old was found guilty of being in the unlawful possession of dagga, cautioned and discharged.
