Hibberdene Happenings: Prepare to welcome bikers this weekend
Bikers are expected to attend from far and wide and one of the highlights of the weekend will be the Mayoral Mass Charity Parade.
ALL roads will lead to Margate for the South Coast Bike Fest this weekend and the event promises to provide slick entertainment for all. Among the artistes performing over the weekend will be the renowned Mtwalume Brass Band, which will showcase its talents at the Beachfront Boulevard this Sunday morning (29th) at about 11am and again at 1pm. This is a huge feather in the band’s cap and members are wished well for their performance.

Bikers descend
Bikers are expected to attend from far and wide and one of the highlights of the weekend will be the Mayoral Mass Charity Parade, starting at 10am, when bikers will ride from St Michael’s to Port Shepstone and back to Margate in support of the non-profit organisation ‘1 Million School Shoes’. Each biker and his/her pillion passenger is urged to donate a pair of school shoes, to be distributed among needy children at a later date.
Popular market
Mtwalume remains in the spotlight as the next flea/craft market takes place the following weekend, Saturday, May 5, from 9am onwards. Venue is the lovely grassed area alongside the pool at Koelwaters Resort and it is hoped the weather plays its part as the last market was cancelled due to inclement weather. There will be the usual flea market goodies – delicious food, snacks, jewellery and arts and crafts, plus music as an added bonus. As per usual, tables will be free of charge. Contact Sue at 039 9721425 for more information.
Church braai
Mizpah Church’s chicken braai takes place this Sunday (29th) after the morning service. Chicken is available for a voluntary donation and should you not be fond of chicken, you are welcome to bring your own meat to braai, along with a small salad to share. All are welcome to attend.
Please donate
The Methodist Church’s ‘Lady Bugs’ plan to hold a jumble sale in the near future. The venue will be the parking area above Pick n Pay and the date is Saturday, June 2, from 9am onwards. Any donations will be gratefully received as all funds raised will go towards worthy causes. The women are also engaged in promoting the organisation’s ‘Winter Warmth’ project, which has proved most rewarding in recent years. Blankets, warm clothing and tracksuits, jerseys and winter shoes will be most welcome for distribution to the cold and needy.
Clinic info
Next month’s eye clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, from noon onwards. Bookings may be made with your scribe at the supplied number or at 073 1653961. The last dental clinic was disrupted by intermittent power failures, resulting in not everyone being able to be attended to. Patients should realise that this is something unplanned and not blame clinic volunteers for their inconvenience. Please note that the dental clinic phone number is 082 2935757.
Welcome back
Your scribe’s son Greg has returned to South Africa after spending a year doing contract work in India, with a break of two weeks every six weeks. He was stationed at Dhanbad, the second largest city in the state of Jharkhand, which has some of the largest coal mines in India, often being called the ‘coal capital of India’. He got on particularly well with the youngsters, who were constantly begging him to teach them English, as their parents were not fluent in the language.
Best wishes
Paula Greener is not feeling too well at present, but good news is that two residents who have not been well for ages are on the road to recovery. Both Nancy Allan and Barry Jones are getting on slowly and it is hoped they continue to recover well.
Happy events
Don and Carol Aldridge celebrate an anniversary on April 27, while birthday wishes for the week go to Sue Branford (26th), Sharon Evans (27th), Helene Oosthuizen and Peter Janssen (29th), Jean Perks (30th) and Marie Coetzer (May 1). Remember to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news, photos and snippets.
