Despite the hot and humid conditions, Tayne Rudling (21) of Umtentweni produced his best riding to win two gold medals at the CAC African MTB Championships recently.
Held in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast, the champs attracted the top riders from the various countries across the continent, with Tayne more than rising to the occasion.
The family raised funds through sponsorships, donations and a raffle to help get him there. The winner of the raffle will be announced in due course.
Tayne clinched victories in both his races in the U23 age category, namely the XCC (cross-country short track) and XCO (cross-country).
He was pleased with his wins, saying they had been hassle-free.
It was a wonderful all-round effort for Team SA, who delivered another clean sweep of the podiums.
Luke Moir completed the double with victories in the XCO, Michael Foster second and Luca Ruwiel in third.
