WATCH: Police Minister Bheki Cele ‘won’t rule out political motive’ for latest ANC leader’s murder

The minister was speaking in Margate today.

National South African Police Services minister, Bheki Cele says those investigating the murder yesterday (Monday) of ANC branch leader Sifiso Cele, will not be ruling out a political motive for the killing.

According to the minister, the robbery might have been a ploy by the gunmen to conceal the true motive for the murder.

The minister was speaking at Margate police station, after an intense four-hour meeting with Margate SAPS members, the Hawks and Task Team members from the commission set up to solve political murders in KZN.

“Only cellphones were taken. No other items were stolen, the suspects left laptops, TVs and other gadgets, and this makes one wonder what their real motive was,” said the minister.

He added that he was determined to see that the perpetrators were brought to book. “It is worrying that no convictions have ever been made in connection with these murders. Political killings have been going on for far too long in this region and we should not rest until someone is wearing orange overalls.”
