Criminal activity has been considerably higher in the Malangeni area over the past couple of months, says Port Shepstone Saps communications officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.
A local resident told the Mail her house and surrounding houses had been broken into several times and, six weeks ago, she had a gun pointed at her head in her own home.

“I’m grateful that no harm came to me and that the Umzinto Saps policemen who are dealing with these cases are doing the best they possibly can, but it’s still very concerning to know that crime doesn’t sleep and, once a few suspects are apprehended, new ones emerge,” said the victim.
She also claims that, over the past few months, they have incurred losses and damage to their home worth thousands. The most recent activity she recalls is her sister’s house being broken into two weeks ago and clothing stolen, as well as a break-in at a local tavern.
According to Lt-Col Wiid, three suspects who were linked to some of the house break-ins have been arrested and charged, with cases still ongoing in court.

“The station commander has taken note of the resident’s concerns and will apply the necessary strategies pertaining to crime prevention in the area,” said Lt-Col Wiid.
Community members are also urged to contact the station commander or the Umzinto Saps with any concerns and queries that they might have and to come forward with information regarding suspicious people or vehicles in the Malangeni area.
