This year’s entertainment includes ZiSaMo (musicians from Zimbabwe, SA and Mozambique), Cornelius, Fireside, performing art students from the Gamalakhe campus of Esayidi FVET, Julian Damon and the Sanctuary of Love choir. David Marks will host the music at the festival and this year he will also be performing with members of the choir.

Some people are clueless. Last Saturday afternoon, a small group of people arrived on the Umtentweni whale deck to adorn the entrance with loads of red balloons. They set up a table and two chairs, a white tablecloth and chair covers, red tie-backs, glasses, crockery and cutlery, and food for an intimate dining experience. They then left one man waiting at the table for his partner, who soon arrived – filled with amazement. They hugged and spent time taking lots of selfies. Then things started going wrong.

Inconsiderate pollution

The man fetched a bottle of something from the vehicle, poured two glasses and casually tossed the bottle into the bushes! The balloons used as props for a posed photo were simply allowed to blow away. At last they settled down to eat, but the wind was up, which put a bit of a damper on things. So they packed up and the unfinished food was tossed over the rail of the deck. And some more rubbish was thrown into the bush. If you want to use the whale deck, by all means do so – it’s a public space, however, if you cannot keep it clean you are not welcome.

Pooches on beaches

It is wonderful to take your dogs to the beach but not the main swimming beach, please. Not everyone is disciplined enough to clean up after their dogs.

Plus there have been reports of dogs getting into fights and of dogs being encouraged to swim near bathers.

This is not respectful to other beachgoers who simply want to spend quality time on a clean beach. Ray Nkonyeni municipal by-laws are being broken.
