Alex Strachan of the Water from Air Foundation, Durban addressed guests, emphasising that ending the water crisis in our lifetime by ensuring that every person in South Africa has access to life’s most basic need – clean drinking water – is essential.

“Globally, about two million people die each year from water, sanitation and hygiene-related causes. An estimated 315 000 children, under the age of five years, die from diarrhoea each year, often as a result of unsafe water,” explained Mr Strachan.

He added that a range atmospheric water generator extracts the moisture from the air to produce pure drinking water. “An atmospheric water generator (AWG) is a device that extracts water from humid ambient air. Water vapour in the air is condensed by cooling the air below its dew point, exposing the air to desiccants, or pressurising the air. Unlike a dehumidifier, an AWG is designed to render the water potable.”
