A 41-year-old man from Yemen who is working in Dubai, visited a pub in Munster last Saturday and was assaulted by a group of men.
According to Adel Alhaimi, who is non-religious he had been to the pub at around lunchtime and asked if they were going to televise the European soccer final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka said Mr Alhaimi returned to the pub at about 8.30pm on Saturday to watch the match. Just before the match ended, Mr Alhaimi called his wife to come and pick him up.
“I went to the toilet and that was the last thing I remembered. I only regained consciousness when I was outside,” he said.
“It appears he was dragged outside by a man who proceeded to assault and kick him for no apparent reason. Mr Alhaimi suffered injuries to his toe and bruises on his left leg.”

According to Mr Alhaimi’s wife, Eftychia, when she arrived at the pub she saw a crowd of men abusing, kicking and swearing at her husband. “Adel approached a nearby security van but they didn’t help. Only when I hit the hooter did the men stop abusing him. When he got into the car we drove home and called the police. We followed the police to a nearby clinic and the next day we opened a case of assault,” said Mrs Alhaimi.
She called the pub the next day and asked to view the CCTV footage to see what had transpired that night.
According to Mrs Alhaimi, the person who answered the phone disconnected the call immediately. The pub was contacted for comment yesterday (Wednesday) and, according to the barman who was on duty at the time, the incident had occurred outside and he hadn’t seen anything.
He did confirm that Mr Alhaimi had asked to view the CCTV footage but had never turned up to do so.
It is believed that Mr Alhaimi works for a tourism company in Dubai which brings tourists on holiday to South Africa. He said he would remain on the South Coast for the next two months until he was able to establish exactly what had occurred that night.
