Scottburgh High hits the half century mark

Congratulations to Scottburgh High which celebrated its 50th anniversary last Friday.
The school held a special assembly in celebration of the day, which was attended by not just the pupils and staff, but also several ex-pupils, including some of the pupils from a 1970s class.

The opening prayer and reading were done by head boy, Henco van Wyk and head girl, Tia Tommy, followed by a welcoming message by principal, John Cafeteiro.

The guest speaker was the school’s first head girl, Carol Baikie, who is also the principal of Scottburgh Pre-Primary. Mrs Baikie gave the pupils a little insight as to what their school was like in her day and also gave them some advice for the future.

“Cherish all your carefree days while you can and enjoy every school moment, because there are too many worries after school and life flashes by very quickly,” she said, “Also remember that your teachers are very important and have a huge role in making you who you will be one day.”

The cutting of the cake was then done by Mrs Baikie and Nel Smit – one of the longest-serving teachers at the school.
The pupils then proceeded to the field and formed a giant 50 with several of the ex-pupils joining in as well.
