Former teacher appears in Scottburgh court for driving under the influence

A retired teacher (60) appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday this week for a crime he committed in 2015.

The man was stopped by policemen on the N2 freeway northbound at Umkomaas on February 7.

He admitted to being under the influence of alcohol when he was stopped.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and explained that he would appreciate his licence not being suspended as he needed to drive his sister to and from hospital on a regular basis as she battles with cancer and he also needs to drive at night to see students whom he tutors.

The case was postponed until further notice and the accused remains out on bail.
