Mzimkhulu River bridge to reopen to traffic on August 24 (Monday)

Additional time is required to complete the jacking operation.

The KZN Department of Transport has advised motorists that the reopening of the Mzimkhulu River bridge in Port Shepstone has now been moved to Monday, August 24, at 06:00.

The bridge has been closed to all traffic since August 19 due to a bridge jacking operation, and was scheduled to open today (August 22).

Selvan Chetty, deputy chairperson of the Ugu District Community Police Forum Board, said according to the engineers, additional technical intervention, checks and adjustments are required.

“We acknowledge the inconvenience caused by the continued closure and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding while the necessary works are being completed,” said Chetty.

Further updates will be provided as progress is made and the reopening arrangements are confirmed.
